The Beauty & Wisdom of Energetic Herbalism with Kat Maier

KatPortraits-blue

Join us for a dynamic and experiential weekend exploring Herbal Energetics with our friend, colleague and mentor.

This course will deepen practitioners’ skills and serve as a delightful introduction for those just beginning their studies. Through lecture, demonstrations and experiential activities, we’ll explore diverse expressions of heat, cold, atrophy & stagnation as well as other considerations for assessing  vitality, healing needs, and ways to support coming into balance. Since the lens of Energetics applies to all Life, we’ll spend time reading the landscape or terrain of plants and trees as well as our human bodies.

Kat will begin with foundational western energetic teachings of the six tissue states so we will all have a common language to work with for the weekend. She will follow this overview with a series of short intakes with participants with time for discussion and individual reflection.  Interspersed through the weekend, we’ll move outside onto the land and sit with various plants and trees. This will give us a chance to explore the ways energetic properties cross the boundaries of species and learn to work with the energetic language of spirit expressed in the green sentient beings.

Friday Night “Open-To-The-Public” Class

Entheogenic/psychedlic plants have been used for millennia to allow traditional peoples access into sacred states of being. This class will look at the chemistry and practice surrounding hallucinogenic plants and see what they have taught cultures about the dying process, whether that is end of life or through life’s transitions. This class will address the teachings of these plants and not the use of them at the time of passing.

Kat Maier, RH (AHG).PA has been a practicing herbalist for over thirty years. She is founder and director of Sacred Plant Traditions, LLC in Charlottesville, VA where she offers a Three-Year Clinical Herbalist training program as well as a multitude of other classes geared to all levels of students. She served as President of the Board of United Plant Savers Board and was the recipient of their first Medicinal Plant Conservation Award. She is the author of Energetic Herbalism: A Guide to Sacred Plant Traditions Integrating Elements of Vitalism, Ayurveda, and Chinese Medicine. This book won the Gold Medal Nautilus Award in 2022.
